June 17, 2016
  • ACT LGBT A.C. invites the public to attend this vigil against the recent violent events

  • The community in Puerto Vallarta LGBTTIQ rejects these homophobic acts occurred in Xalapa and Orlando

Next Sunday June 19th, at 7:00 pm on Los Muertos Beach, just by Mantamar Beach Club facilities, a Memorial Candlelight Vigil for Victims will be held, promted by the recent acts of hatred against people from the LGBTTIQ community in Xalapa, Veracruz, Mexico and the city of Orlando, Florida in the United States.

ACT LGBT B.C. (LGBT Association of Commerce & Tourism) and the Organizing Committee of Vallarta Pride 2016 invites the general public to join this act of solidarity, love and to condemn violence against any human being for reasons of sexual orientation, race, religion, etc.

Vigils is a way to express sympathy, empathy and solidarity with a person or group of people who are suffering. It is at the same time a firm, strong and collective expression of a demand: respect for the life and the dignity of the people, over any difference.

Recently two violent and with clear homophobic attacks beat the LGBTTIQ community of Mexico and the world. At the Bar Madame in Xalapa, Veracruz last May 21st, 7 people died and 12 were injured. In the attack at the Pulse Club in Orlando, Florida last June 12th until today counted 49 dead and 53 wounded.

Both attacks were carried out in places where people mostly from the LGBTTIQ community, attend to have fun while they feel safe and can be themselves.

For this reason and to pay tribute to the deceased and the wounded, we call for everyone to attend this Memorial Candlelit Vigil for Victims of the violence generated by sexual orientation. We will attend in peace, with respect and carrying candles in our hands to light the way that all these free souls have taken.  We will attend wearing white, bringing rainbow flags and flowers.
